Requirements
Before using Porticus please ensure that you have installed the Apple developer tools and MacPorts. The version of Apple's Xcode Tools required by MacPorts is given at MacPorts. Apple requires only a free online registration in order for you to be able to download this software. The Apple Developer Connection page is at XCode
Installation
After completing the download of Porticus open the disk image and copy the application to your Applications folder.
The first time you start Porticus, your system will notify you: “Porticus” is an application which was downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?
--> Click "Open"
You will be asked whether Porticus should check for updates on startup. (If not, you can initiate the check manually from the application menu Check for Updates…)
--> It is suggested to accept the default "Yes".
Next you may receive an alert
"Porticus helper application (PortRunner) needs repair. Repair now?"
This is not unusual, as its helper application userid needs to be set to root. Using a separate setuid helper application makes Porticus more secure, the application itself does not need to run with root permissions.
--> Click Yes and, when prompted, give permission (enter your password) to allow this correction.
